Letting go sounds easy until you’re the one being asked to do it.
A person. A place. A friendship. A version of yourself. A life you thought you were going to have.
In this episode of Sisters with Mirrors, we talk about why letting go can be so difficult, what fear and the ego have to do with it, and why holding onto something long after its time has passed can affect far more than we realise.
And, because this is Sisters with Mirrors, we don’t stop there.
We move from letting go and emotional healing into consciousness, dimensions, extraterrestrial life, non-human intelligence and the idea that every living thing — here on Earth or somewhere far beyond it — may ultimately be connected to the same Source.
In this episode
We start with something almost everyone has experienced: knowing that something needs to change, but still being afraid to release what feels familiar.
Sometimes we hold onto people. Sometimes it’s places, relationships, routines, beliefs or old versions of ourselves. Even when something no longer feels right, familiarity can feel safer than stepping into something unknown.
So we ask: what are we actually afraid of when we refuse to let go?
For us, letting go isn’t about pretending something never mattered. It isn’t about erasing the past, suppressing emotion or forcing yourself to suddenly be fine.
It’s about recognising what you’ve been carrying, understanding why you’ve been carrying it, and asking whether it still belongs with you.
We also talk about what happens when emotions like anger, grief, fear and hurt are pushed down instead of dealt with. You can bury something for years and convince yourself it’s gone, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has disappeared.
Sometimes all it takes is the right storm for everything buried underneath to come back to the surface.

Letting go, healing and the ego
One of the things we keep coming back to is the difference between actually letting something go and simply avoiding it.
We use the image of a beach and the ocean. The surface can look perfectly calm while all sorts of things are sitting underneath. Then a storm comes through, churns everything up, and suddenly what was buried is right there in front of you again.
Emotions can work the same way.
You can put something in a box, shove it into a corner of your mind and tell yourself you’ve moved on. But if you haven’t really faced it, understood it or worked through it, that box can open again when you least expect it.
We also talk about the ego and the role it plays in all of this.
The ego isn’t necessarily the enemy. In many ways, it’s trying to protect us. It remembers pain. It remembers danger. It remembers what happened last time and says, don’t do that again.
But the problem is that the ego can also keep us trapped in old versions of ourselves.
Something that once protected you might eventually become the very thing preventing you from growing.
So instead of automatically obeying that fear, we can stop and ask: is this warning still protecting me, or is it keeping me stuck?
That’s where letting go becomes part of growth.
Consciousness beyond what we know
This is where the conversation starts moving beyond everyday life and into the bigger questions we love exploring.
What exactly is consciousness?
Is human consciousness the limit of what consciousness can be?
And what happens if there are beings that experience reality completely differently from us?
We use a caterpillar as a way of thinking about dimensions and time.
Imagine a caterpillar moving through its life one section at a time. From its perspective, there is a beginning, a middle and an end. But what if another form of consciousness could somehow perceive that entire timeline at once?
If the fourth dimension includes time, could a higher-dimensional being experience a life not as a sequence of moments, but as something visible all at once?

Then we push it even further.
What if the fifth dimension isn’t simply the timeline you travelled through, but every possible branch that could have existed?
Every choice.
Every alternative.
Every road taken and every road not taken.

These are the kinds of questions we want to explore on Sisters with Mirrors because consciousness may be far bigger than the narrow slice of reality we currently experience.
Human beings perceive the universe through human senses, a human brain and a human understanding of time. That doesn’t mean our perspective is the only one that exists.
There may be levels of consciousness, existence and reality that we simply aren’t equipped to perceive yet.
And if humanity is going to grow into its next level of consciousness, then we have to be willing to ask questions that take us beyond what is already familiar.
Aliens, non-human intelligence and Source
In this episode, we consider whether non-human intelligence — aliens, for short — might also have a relationship with Source, consciousness and the wider universe.
If Source is truly the origin of consciousness and life, why would that connection stop with human beings?
Why wouldn’t animals be part of it?
Why wouldn’t plants?
Why wouldn’t an intelligent species living somewhere else in the universe?
We explore the idea that perhaps there aren’t completely separate spiritual systems for every species in existence. Maybe there is one Source, expressed through countless forms of life and countless forms of consciousness.
A human experiences Source as a human.
A cat experiences existence as a cat.
A tree experiences existence in whatever way consciousness moves through a tree.
And an extraterrestrial being may experience the same underlying Source through senses, dimensions and levels of awareness that are completely different from ours.

That raises another question we keep coming back to: what if everything really is connected?
Not just humanity.
Not just life on Earth.
Everything.
What if consciousness is woven through the universe in ways we’re only beginning to understand?
What if what we call spiritual awakening is partly the process of remembering that connection?
And what if humanity’s next step isn’t simply more technology, more information or more material progress, but an expansion in consciousness itself?
That’s the territory we want Sisters with Mirrors to explore.
We want to question the limits we’ve inherited, look beyond the obvious, connect ideas that aren’t normally placed beside each other and ask what reality might look like when we stop assuming humanity already understands it.
The card of the week: The Star
We finish the episode with our card of the week: The Star.
And it couldn’t have fitted the conversation much better.
The Star carries themes of hope, clarity, insight, love, spiritual renewal and possibility.
It’s card number 17, which reduces to 8 — a number we connect with infinity, cycles and the idea of something continuing beyond the boundaries we can immediately see.
For an episode about releasing the past, expanding consciousness and looking beyond the limits of ordinary perception, it feels pretty fitting.
Maybe letting go isn’t always about losing something.
Maybe sometimes it’s about making enough space for something new to enter.
And maybe the same thing applies to consciousness.
If we want to understand more, experience more and become more, eventually we have to be willing to release some of the limits we once believed were absolute.
Open your mind. Question everything. Step through the mirror.
